The Teacher Search Committee of the Housatonic Valley Waldorf School is pleased to announce that Brigitte Cadigan will join the HVWS grade school faculty as the First Grade Teacher for the class of 2029.

Ms. Cadigan is already a familiar part of our school community. She was a member of the HVWS early childhood faculty during the 2019-20 school year and she and her family quickly became active participants in our school.

Brigitte attended the Klessheim Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management in Austria, following in her father’s footsteps as a hotel manager. Brigitte’s love of travel, both on land and sea, brought her to the Napa Valley region in California, where she met her husband and started a family.

Ms. Cadigan first came to Waldorf education after sending her eldest child to a Waldorf school in Sonoma Valley. This introduction to Waldorf education transformed the family in many ways. The value Waldorf education places on rhythm, routine, and reverence, as well as nature, being stewards of the earth, and educating out of the arts resonated with Ms. Cadigan as these were values that were important to her and how she raised her own children. Ms. Cadigan avidly researched anthroposophy and the Waldorf curriculum, attending workshops, lectures, and book studies, and volunteeing at the school.

Becoming a Waldorf grade school teacher has been a part of Ms. Cadigan’s plans for many years, but she put this work on hold while raising her children. Ms. Cadigan homeschooled her children in the Waldorf method when the pandemic forced them to stay home and her experience translating the Waldorf curriculum over four grades to her children inspired her to pursue the first grade position. Ms. Cadigan will begin her Waldorf grade school teacher training at the Sunbridge Institute in New York.

The Teacher Search Committee was impressed by Ms. Cadigan’s dedication, the integrity she applies to any endeavor she commits to, her incredible warmth and artistic inspiration, as well as her natural ability to connect with students. We are proud to support Brigitte Cadigan as the first grade teacher for the class of 2029.

The HVWS Teacher Search Committee includes faculty and staff: Laura Hayes, Carrie Reilly, Sara Wiley and Marcela Perez.
