Alison comes to us with extensive experience in teaching string instruments. She offers private instruction on violin and viola to aspiring musicians of all ages, as well as opportunities to play in recital twice a year. She is also the Assistant Director for the Danbury Music Centre where her responsibilities include teaching the beginner strings class, teaching and conducting the Novice group and assisting with STEAM projects. In addition, the children engage in fun activities with an emphasis on learning basic music skills.
Alison also brings experience working in the independent school setting, most recently at the Wooster School where she was the Strings Director for the Lower School and responsible for private and small group lessons on violin, viola, and cello. In addition, she taught chamber music to the middle school string students and held student recitals in school.
Alison graduated cum laude with a Bachelor’s of Music from Western Connecticut State University. Her area of study was music performance, with a special emphasis on chamber music. She had the great privilege of studying violin with Eric Lewis of the Manhattan String Quartet. She was also coached by the MSQ, Tokyo String Quartet, Howard Tuvelle and Karl Schnabel. In addition, she studied conducting under Dr. Fernando Jimenez. Since 1997, she has played as the First Violin section player in the Danbury Symphony Orchestra.
For the past 25 years she has helped many students experience the joy of making music. Many of them have gone on to build their own musical careers, passing that joy on to others.
